A new launch date has been confirmed….

by

.. and it’s May 6th! From the official ESA notification this morning:

During the planned meeting today at highest management level the concerns on the flightworthiness of the Herschel Telescope could be removed and go ahead has been given to start fuelling of the spacecraft. Herschel fuelling will be prepared today and the actual fuelling with Hydrazine will start early tomorrow morning. Planck will be filled during the next week.

The activities on spacecraft will now follow the nominal launch campaign schedule and the nominal launch date is the 6th May 2009.

With fuelling about to begin, exciting (and extremely busy) times lie just ahead for us on the Herschel team!
